Who We Are

...We develop and unite individual youth to inspire civic responsibility, challenge societal barriers, and drive transformative change from the grassroots up.

Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) is a non-profit, voluntary, non-religious, non-partisan, and non-tribal community-based organization legally registered under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Registration No. IT 14589, dated May 1, 2002). Recognizing the impact of its work, the Federal Government of Nigeria signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Corps to support and validate its operations nationwide.

Founded on July 10, 1998, by renowned youth advocate Dr Dickson A. O. Akoh, the Peace Corps of Nigeria is one of the country’s leading youth-centered organizations. We are committed to empowering young people, promoting peace, and driving national development through programs that foster volunteerism, ethical leadership, civic responsibility, and sustainable community engagement.

With our core mandate to develop, empower, and provide gainful opportunities for the youth, PCN actively supports peacebuilding efforts, encourages neighborhood watch initiatives, and drives community-based interventions aimed at strengthening the social fabric of Nigeria.

We are formally recognized by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the Federal Ministry of Education for our contributions to youth advancement and civic education in schools and communities.

On the global stage, PCN holds Special Consultative Status with both the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU). We also collaborate with international partners such as UNESCO, UNEP, the UN Global Compact, and the Global Network for Civil Society Organizations, contributing meaningfully to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
